The New ViDock Family: ViDock 3, ViDock 4, and ViDock 4 Plus

Introducing ViDock 3, ViDock 4, and ViDock 4 Plus
ViDock 3, ViDock 4, and ViDock 4 Plus are expansion chassis tailored specifically for adapting PCI Express graphics cards for use with ExpressCard equipped laptop PCs. Simply select the PCI Express graphics card the best fits your needs and install it in the box. It’s that simple.
Imagine using your thin and light laptop PC during the day on the job, at school, or at the local café then arriving home, or dorm room, plugging it into your ViDock and firing up your latest PC game on a large format monitor. Just plug in one cable into your laptop PC and you instantly have a powerful 3D workstation with a big display, a big keyboard and your pointing device of choice. You are ready for gaming, video transcoding, photoshop, 3D design, watching full 1080p HD movies, and more!

When you need mobility and performance for gaming
PC gamers that need the mobility of a laptop are faced with purchasing a separate gaming desktop for graphics performance and a laptop for small size, light weight, cool temperature, and long battery life. This solution is expensive and keeping the two machines in sync is not always easy. One alternative is to purchase an expensive gaming laptop and deal with lugging around a large and heavy machine, getting burned by the heat, and little battery life. And, when it comes time to upgrade, the only option is to replace the entire laptop.
With a ViDock expansion chassis, you can simply unplug and go to take full advantage of your laptop’s mobile features - light weight, cool, small laptop with great battery life. When you get home, just plug in one cable and your are ready! No sync, no firing up a separate machine, no aches and pains of lugging a heavy computer around all day. And, when it’s time to upgrade, just replace the graphics card with the latest one available - in a few minutes!

Docking for Gamers
With just one cable, your laptop can connect to a large format display (or two), keyboard, and mouse. A USB hub will allow you to add more devices to the one-step plug-in such as a printer, external hard drive, USB headset, and more.

Intelligent Power Management
ViDock 3 manages its own power, so there is no need to fiddle with an on/off button. The embedded microcontroller in ViDock 3 senses the laptop’s power state and keeps the graphics card in sync even while cycling through suspend or sleep modes.

Works best with Windows 7 and 8
ViDock is not only compatible with Windows 7 but takes full advantage of its latest features. Windows 7 instantly remembers and restores your display configurations when you hot plug your ViDock then again when you gracefully remove ViDock. No need to go into the display set-up dialog box to configure your displays. Also, with Windows 7, the graphics card in ViDock will show up in the eject tray as a removable device.
ViDock also works with Vista, Windows XP, and Mac OS X.

Using ViDock for Server PC, Small Form Factor (SFF) with ViCard 1
There are Use Cases where you might want to use ViDock for Desktop PCs:
1) The Desktop PC Power Supply is too small to support a big graphics card
2) The Big graphics card makes your PC too hot inside
3) Your PC is too low profile for any PCIe Card
4) Your PC does not provide double bracket space
In this situation you can insert ViCard 1 into your PC. It is a PCIe to ExpressCard adapter. It comes with two brackets: standard height and low profile, thus it fits into any Desktop PC with a PCIe slot. Once the card is inserted in your PC you connect ViDock with its ExpressCard cable by inserting it into the ExpressCard slot of ViCard 1.

Easy card installation
With the removal of four thumbscrews, ViDock’s PCI Express card slot is exposed for easy card installation. Once the card is installed in the slot, just slide the assembly back in and install the thumbscrews.

ViDock 3, ViDock 4, and ViDock 4 Plus - Choose the one that fits your needs

ViDock 3 is designed to accommodate PCIe cards with no power connector.

ViDock 4 is designed to accommodate PCIe cards with one 6-pin power connector, or less power cards with no power connector.

ViDock 4 Plus is designed to accommodate PCIe cards with two 6-pin power connectors, or less power cards with one 6-pin connector, or with no connectors. Now we have ViDock 4 ++ to replace ViDock 4 Plus to accommodate cards with two 6-pin power connectors, or with 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors, e.g. GTX 760, GTX 770.

These ViDock products are offered without a graphics card installed so that the user can choose the card that best fits his/her laptop model and desired performance level. All three ViDock models support double wide PCIe cards.

6+2 Pin PCIe Aux Power Cable
This cable is included in the new ViDock 4 ++. It can be configured to connect either to a graphics card with 6 + 6 Pin Auxiliary PCIe Power connectors, or with 6 + 8 pin. In case you have a ViDock 4 Plus, and want to upgrade to a card with 6 + 8 pin, then this cable will help you do that. Please keep in mind that ViDock 4 ++ is made to support GTX 760 and GTX 770. If you upgrade a ViDock 4 Plus, please do not go higher than GTX 760.

There are many combination of BIOS, Drivers, and Operating Systems and settings that determine support for a PCIe graphics card working with a notebook. Please send us a ticket @ (external link) to check the compatibility for your setup. We would reply as soon as we can.
